
JILL MORTON attended the Music School of Douglas Academy,
near Glasgow,
from the age of 13 where she studied with Jean Hutchison. In 1994,
she won a scholarship place to study with Professor Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, graduating in
1998 with an Honours Degree in Performance.
Since making her professional debut in 1994, Jill has performed
extensively as concerto soloist throughout Great
Britain, in venues which include the Royal Albert
Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London, the
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Appearances have
included performances of Rachmaninov Paganini Variations, and Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Ravel and Schumann concertos. Jill is also
much in demand as a recitalist and has given solo and duo recitals in
venues including St Martin - in - the
Fields and St James’s, Piccadilly.
In 1997, Jill became the Skene Award
winner at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival. She has
subsequently performed as concerto soloist at the Festival Gala concert
playing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with James Loughran,
and Beethoven Emperor Concerto with Sian Edwards.
In addition, as Skene Award winner, she has
given recital performances and has toured with the renowned Dutch
violinist, Daniel Rowland and the Edinburgh Quartet playing the Chausson Concerto.
Jill is an experienced Chamber Musician having performed in various
combinations of trio, quartet and quintet with the Etive
Ensemble, a chamber music group originally formed at the Guildhall School
of Music and Drama.
In 1997, Jill was awarded a scholarship to attend the Academie Internationale de Musique Maurice Ravel in St Jean
de Luz, France, where she studied with
Georges Pludermacher. In 1999, she was delighted
to participate as a scholarship student with Marc Durand in the Music and
Sound programme at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta,
Canada,
where she has also recently undertaken a musician’s residency.
