PATRICK FLANAGHAN (19) is currently in his second year at the Royal Academy of Music.

He started learning the oboe with Sarah Cox (Salisbury Orchestral Society oboist) at the age of 10 whilst a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral School under Richard Seal.

Encouraged by Nicholas Daniel, Patrick gained a scholarship to the Purcell School of Music under the government’s Music & Dance Scheme.  Whilst there he studied oboe with Melanie Ragge whilst continuing to have occasional lessons and attend residential oboe courses with Nicholas Daniel.

In 2002, he was the winner of the Senior Concerto Competition and subsequently performed the Albinoni concerto you will hear tonight at the school’s 40th anniversary concert at the Royal School of Music.

On leaving the Purcell School, Patrick gained a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he studies with Celia Nicklin.  He performs regularly in concerts at the RAM and in the South East.
