Priya Mitchell was brought up in Oxford. She went to the Yehudi Menuhin School where she studied under David Takeno.  Two years at the Conservatoire in Vienna were followed by a period of study with Zachar Bron in Germany.  In 1997 she was chosen as the British representative in the European Concert Halls Organisation “Rising Stars” series.  

 

In 1998 she made her major London concerto debut in a performance of the Sibelius Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Yuri Temirkanov at the Royal Albert Hall.  Priya has also performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Philharmonia and London Mozart Players, and has toured Scotland with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

 

Priya is a regular concerto soloist with many major European Orchestras.  In August 2003 she made her debut in Australia on a nationwide tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and most recent successes include concerts with the Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin at the Berlin Philharmonie and a concert tour of the UK with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

As a recitalist, Priya has performed at many international music festivals.  In July 2000 she founded the Oxford Chamber Music Festival, of which she is Artistic Director. 

 

Priya plays a Ballestieri (1760) violin.
